Diego "Peque" Schwartzman, the best Argentine tennis player of recent years, shared a moving message after his defeat in the Challenger in Rosario, which marked his second-to-last tournament as a professional. In this event, Schwartzman was defeated in the first round by his compatriot Camilo Ugo Carabelli with a score of 4-6, 6-4, and 6-3. Next week he will retire at the Argentina Open.
In his letter published on Thursday, "Peque" thanked the fans for making him feel very good during the match and expressed: "it was a pleasure to come. I enjoyed every point and every moment of the match." He also highlighted: "I will always carry you in my heart for giving me such beautiful moments and I hope you enjoyed yesterday's match as much as I did."
Schwartzman, who reached the eighth position in the ATP ranking in 2020 and has won four titles as a professional, will retire next week after his participation in the Argentina Open. In that tournament, he managed to lift the trophy in 2021, ending a 13-year drought without local champions.
